Common Causes Of Neck Pain

Neck pain can come from posture, injury, stress, spinal joint irritation, muscle tension, or conditions affecting the cervical spine.

Posture & Tech Neck

Hours at a desk, computer, or phone can contribute to forward head posture, neck stiffness, and upper back tension.

Whiplash & Auto Accidents

Neck pain after a car accident may appear immediately or develop days later due to whiplash, soft tissue injury, or joint irritation.

Muscle Strain

Sleeping wrong, lifting, sports injuries, stress, or sudden movement can lead to painful neck muscle spasms.

Pinched Nerve Symptoms

Pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness traveling into the shoulder, arm, or hand may suggest nerve irritation.

Headaches

Tension headaches and cervicogenic, or neck-related, headaches may begin in the neck and travel toward the head.

Joint Stiffness

Reduced mobility in the neck or upper back can make turning, bending, sleeping, and driving more difficult.

How Dr. Collin Evaluates Neck Pain

Great care starts with understanding what is causing the problem.

Listens to your symptoms and concerns.
Reviews your health history and injury history.
Checks posture, movement, and range of motion.
Evaluates shoulder, upper back, and arm symptoms.
Performs orthopedic or neurological checks when appropriate.
Determines whether digital X-rays are appropriate.
Explains findings in plain English.
Recommends the next best step without pressure.

Our Approach To Neck Pain Treatment

Every patient is different. Some people benefit from chiropractic adjustments. Others may need soft tissue work, stretching, posture guidance, home exercises, or additional evaluation before treatment begins.

At Collin Chiropractic, the goal is not to rush you into care. The goal is to understand what is happening, explain your options clearly, and help you decide what makes sense for your health and recovery.

Home Care Tips You Can Start Today

Simple things you can do at home while your body heals.

✓ Keep Your Neck Moving

Unless you've been told otherwise, gentle movement is usually better than complete rest. Slowly turn your head from side to side several times during the day rather than holding your neck completely still.

✓ Give Your Posture A Quick Check

If you spend time on a computer or looking at your phone, raise your screen closer to eye level and take a stretch break every 30 to 60 minutes. Small posture changes can make a big difference.

✓ Heat Or Ice?

If your neck pain started after a recent injury, ice may help during the first day or two. For ongoing stiffness or muscle tightness, many people find moist heat more comforting. If you're unsure which is best for you, we're happy to help.

Remember...

Home care tips can often make you more comfortable, but they don't replace a proper evaluation. If your neck pain is severe, keeps returning, follows a car accident, or is causing numbness, tingling, or weakness, don't wait to have it checked. We'd much rather answer your questions early than see you weeks later after you've been living with pain.

Neck Pain FAQ

Can a chiropractor help with neck pain?

Chiropractic care may help many types of neck pain, especially pain related to joint restriction, muscle tension, posture, headaches, whiplash, or reduced mobility. Dr. Collin will evaluate your symptoms and explain whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

Do I need X-rays for neck pain?

Not every patient needs X-rays. If your symptoms, injury history, or examination findings suggest imaging may be helpful, Dr. Collin will explain why before moving forward.

Is neck pain after a car accident serious?

It can be. Neck pain after a car accident may involve whiplash, soft tissue injury, joint irritation, or nerve symptoms. Because pain can appear hours or days later, it is wise to be evaluated promptly.

Can neck pain cause headaches?

Yes. Neck tension, poor posture, and irritation in the upper cervical spine may contribute to tension headaches or cervicogenic, neck-related headaches.

What if my neck pain travels into my shoulder or arm?

Pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness traveling into the shoulder, arm, or hand may suggest nerve irritation or another condition that deserves evaluation.

When should I seek emergency medical care?

Seek emergency care immediately if neck pain follows serious trauma or is accompanied by weakness, loss of coordination, severe headache, difficulty speaking, chest pain, difficulty breathing, fever, or loss of consciousness.
